Benjamin Grinnell

Benjamin Grinnell has two decades of experience in real estate investment, finance, and development, spanning mixed-use, residential, public-private, and other commercial asset classes. His work has taken him to major global gateway markets such as San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and London, and over the past ten years, he has focused on high-growth secondary markets, including Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ben is responsible for strategic direction, sourcing new investment opportunities, fostering partnerships, expanding capital markets and investor relationships, leading development initiatives, and growing both the platform and the team.
Before founding Arboretum Partners, Ben was a Partner at Blue Heron, a North Carolina–based real estate private equity and development firm. Earlier in his career, Ben held development and investment roles at The JBG Companies (NYSE: JBGS) and Sares Regis.
Ben earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and a Master’s in Regional and Urban Planning from the London School of Economics. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and a former collegiate All-American and professional lacrosse player. Outside of work, Ben enjoys coaching youth sports, travel, photography, and tennis. He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife, three sons, and two dogs.
